What you’ll do

Scope of responsibilities include research and development on AI based solutions for multi/ hyperspectral imaging supporting drug development and biomarker discovery programs, in close collaboration with interfacing functions at global AstraZeneca, contributing to the imaging data science and AI (DS&AI) strategy and its implementation in Early Oncology, in active scientific exchange with the computer vision and AI community.

  • Generate decisive data based on the image analysis of multi/hyperspectral histopathology images to advance the Early Oncology drug and biomarker development programs.

  • Further develop and apply latest artificial intelligence methods to support image and data analysis in Translational Medicine.

  • Lead a small team of image and data science experts focusing on multi/hyperspectral imaging technologies at Computational Pathology.

  • Contribute to the global DS&AI strategy and implementations by close collaboration across multiple functions in the larger organization.

  • Disseminate knowledge, best practices and developed algorithms and software tools to internal audiences in project meetings, AI seminars, documentation and code libraries, and to the external academic community with conference presentations and journal publications.

  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders and interfacing functions such as pathology, quality assurance, data management, software development, data science and bioinformatics.

Essential for the role

  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in R&D in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Ph.D in computer science, physics, mathematics or related scientific discipline.

  • Significant track record of publications in the field of computer vision and artificial intelligence.

  • In-depth knowledge of software development using Python and scientific compute libraries.

  • Excellent communication and social skills while working in interdisciplinary, international and globally distributed project teams.

  • Must be able to work independently on multiple tasks in a high paced environment, be dedicated, detail oriented and constantly innovating.

Desirable for the role

  • Software development experience in a medical device environment.

  • Project experience in analyzing multi/hyperspectral histopathology images, preferably using a cloud environment such as AWS.

  • Management of a small agile team using SCRUM or a similar framework.

  • Project management skills including project resource estimation, milestone planning, delivery definition, and financial overview.
