1. Library data service duties

To deal with library data collection, collation, description, management, archiving, preserving and adding value throughout data lifecycle;

To collect, analyze, and document a wide range of library/user-generated data; and to contribute to a data-driven approach to achieving library strategic objectives and their effective operations;

To support data analysis and reporting need across the library, and to provide training and consultation on evaluation, data, and reporting tools and technique;

To make the data selection and appraising strategy and standard, and work with library divisions/committees/groups to trace, select and appraise those data;

To document and optimize the policy and workflow on library data service area;

To maintain awareness of tools and algorithms for computationally centered, data-driven science (data mining, visualization, text mining, etc.).

2. Library assessment duties

To develop and coordinate the implementation of a comprehensive and strategic assessment program within XJTLU library;

To promote a culture of assessment ; and to establish a library assessment group;

To provide various forms of expertise and increase the technical competencies of library staff in this area;

To conduct internal and external survey about library resources and services; and produce the report regularly to give all functional teams a useful insight to whether we are performing better or worse than average in world-wide academic libraries;

To document and optimize the policy, guideline and workflow on academic library assessment area.

3. Academic liaison and reference duties

To serves as the primary liaison to a group of academic departments appropriate to the incumbent’s academic background;

To deal with the requests from academic communities in regard to library affairs for their teaching and research;

To keep both faculties and the library updated of the changes and progress in each side;

To provide research consultation and instruction in library resources and research skills tools for students, faculty, and researcher at XJTLU;

To initiate and/or participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Position Qualification Requirement

Skills and Knowledge (技能)

Familiarity with integrated library system;

Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following web technologies: XML, HTML,CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and using published APIs;

Experience designing assessment projects, defining research questions, documenting and analyzing data and providing recommendations for improvement;

Experience undertaking survey using the on-line survey instrument, conducting analysis and creating customized reports using data analysis or statistical software applications (such as Excel, SPSS, Nvivo, Atlas or R);

Excellent project management skills, strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail;

Ability to work effectively, both in independently and collaboratively, in a collegial environment;

Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skill both in English and Chinese;

Qualifications and Experience (资历):

Master’s degree or above in computer, information science, or related field;

Minimum of one year of professional library experience or any combination education and experience that provides the desired knowledge, abilities, and skills required to perform the job;

Competence with tools and methodologies for quantitative, data-driven research is preferred.
