Data Scientist - Modelling & Analytics

Job Description

Job Purpose:

Responsible for data modelling and analytics in China to support the growth of Kantar Worldpanel and ensure the delivery of high quality insights which inspire successful decisions. Work with stakeholders throughout the organization across the Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou offices to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions. Support our solutions and client teams with insights gained from analyzing company data.


The key attributes include:

1)4+ years of experience in manipulating data sets and building statistical and machine learning models, has a Master’s in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field.

2)Hands-on experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.

3)Strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using predictive algorithms and creating/running simulations.

4)Proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights.

5)Have a passion for discovering patterns hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.


Data science and analytics:

1)Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on analytics solutions development.

2)Adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action.

3)Use predictive modelling to increase and optimize marketing performance, revenue generation, and other business outcomes.

4)Mine and analyse data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of solutions development, marketing techniques and strategies.

5)Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.

6)Coordinate with different client teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.

7)Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyse model performance and data accuracy.


Knowledge, skills and experience required:

1)Hands on experience in statistical and machine learning techniques: Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, neural networks, etc.

2)Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc.

3)Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modelling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.

4)Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.

5)Experience in programming with Java and developing software applications

6)A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.

7)Strong creativity and the ability to embed new frameworks and approaches.

8)Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.

9)Strong industry knowledge preferred. Market research experience added advantage. Solid background and experience in China

10)Fluent in Chinese and English
