Job Description
This position supports the firm’s global derivatives business by providing essential negotiation and contract administration support for the firm’s ISDA contracts and other OTC derivatives and clearing documentation. The Negotiator is responsible for all stages of the contract process from the initial drafting through execution. In a complex and high volume business negotiations need be conducted in a timely, thorough and efficient manner. The responsibilities will also include review of constitutional documentation an netting opinions, consistent follow up with internal business stakeholders and external customers, maintaining detailed records of negotiations in legal technology systems, along with a committed effort to stay apprised of new and changing regulatory and legal issues and industry initiatives. The function requires extensive interaction with the firm’s institutional clients and their internal/external counsel as well as coordination with the firm's trading/sales, legal, credit and tax areas.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS, a JD, an active Bar license from the contiguous US and at least 5 years of experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating industry trading agreements in a large institutional setting. Experience and familiarity with the ISDA or other OTC documentation preferred. A proven record of completing complex documentation within very tight time deadlines is essential. A strong grasp of the relevant legal and credit concepts is required as is experience with complex corporate structures including hedge funds, structures involving third party lenders, Special Purpose Vehicles, mutual funds and the like.
The individual must be detail and team-oriented with excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills as well as strong reading and analytical skills. The ability to exercise mature judgment and adhere to policy guidelines is necessary as well as a self-motivated character that is capable of working autonomously. Comprehensive proficiency in MS Word and Excel is also required.
