Purpose of the Position

This role is to lead on the delivery of programmes centred on a growing portfolio of sponsored and funded standardization services projects. These programmes often have multiple deliverables and can take between 6 to 24 months to complete.

The Content Programme Manager provides end-to-end support for the funded programmes, working with the pre-sales teams to validate the scope can be delivered, with colleagues in Content Development, with the Standards Market Development sector and services teams, with the internal programme sponsor, and liaising with external funding partners and programme stakeholders. In this capacity, the Content Programme Manager supports the clarification of programme scope and KPIs, identifies the programme benefits, and reports on the health and progress of the programme to ensure the benefits are realised.

We are seeking an experienced and energetic individual. This role will suit candidates with a proven ability to deliver multiple projects to client expectations, on budget, to schedule and to an expected level of quality. It is important to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, the ability to lead others and to follow clear programme and project methodologies. It is also important to demonstrate excellent communication skills, including authoritative meeting facilitation and strong persuading and influencing skills, to manage client relationships and build consensus amongst a variety of external and internal stakeholders.

This role will pay in the Circ of £45,000 (Depending on Experience)

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Programme Management

  • Manage complex and challenging standardization programmes, with multiple and varied deliverables, each with their own project structure.
  • Build credible and realistic programme plans, incorporating milestones and structure in-line with BSI good practice, ensuring lessons learnt are captured at in the end review.
  • Provide strategic leadership in monitoring benefit delivery and to maximize benefits from the programme.
  • Build and maintain a strong delivery-focused programme team. Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to the larger multi-disciplinary teams to deliver successfully. Be a valued right-hand support to the programme sponsor and voice of reason for stakeholders.
  • Prepare programme reporting dashboards to capture budget (financial and allocated days versus actual) and track against identified success criteria. Provide clear and traceable reporting for funded programme audit purposes.
  • In conjunction with pre-sales team, contribute to the project scope, success criteria and schedule details within the proposal, collaborating with client and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
  • Communicate programme progress in a structured and effective way, outlining risks and issues in a timely manner and ensure appropriate programme and project governance is in place.
  • Proactively lead on solving problems as they arise throughout the duration of a project and, where necessary, escalate and seek approval for recommendations.
  • Build a sense of trust and expertise and through influencing at the project and programme level, support the consensus building process and work to align opinions within the programme team and amongst stakeholders and contributors to the programme.
  • Work with project managers, external team members and business-as-usual to ensure dependencies are actively managed. Act as an arbiter and enforcer and resolve issues between the various elements of the programme.
  • As required, manage and contribute to team and workflow improvement projects.

  • Proven and successful programme management experience
  • Experience of managing multiple projects
  • Strong communication and relationship building experience
  • Experience of working with multiple, often senior, stakeholders
  • Proven and successful management of political sensitivities
  • Experience of managing conflicting priorities
  • Experience of managing dependencies in large programmes
  • Minimum 3 years of large project or programme management experience
  • PRINCE 2 practitioner, APM practitioner, MSP or other business-recognized project or programme management qualification
