BNY Mellon’s Data and Analytics Solutions (“D&A” for short) is a bank backed fintech with more than 200 external investment management firms as clients and 1000+ people in offices globally. The unit is backed by the bank’s largest division – the Asset Servicing and Digital division. Our mission is to treat data as an asset class in it own right and to serve our clients by helping them get value from their investment data.

Today, D&A sources and deploys data of different types using various models (e.g., “bring-your-own data”, “bring-your-own-license” and “we buy it for you”). As the volume and complexity of our client-facing data intake and distribution grows, D&A needs to establish a Content Hub for the business. Our goal is to create a scalable operating model for internal and external clients so we can ingest and provide various types of data efficiently and quickly on the platform

To support this critical capability, the business is looking for a strong candidates to support data stewarding of a broad spectrum of data into the content hub to support clients. The Content Operations analyst will leverage deep data expertise and technical analysis to manage a rapidly growing number of data sources, and will interface with vendors and clients to ensure timely data ingestion and quality for data sources.   Sourced from top tier financial services vendors have subject expertise in specific data domains such as customer, product, and financial reference data.

The Content Hub, Data Steward Operations Analyst will support global clients in day-to-day operational market data needs, performing data stewarding and data management through utilization of D&A platforms and applications. The candidate will define deliverables to exceed quality standards. The position requires an individual that is self-motivated and has an entrepreneurial mindset. The individual needs to be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment and handle changing priorities. S/he will be required to collaborate with vendors, clients and other groups within the company to drive the execution of our data ingestion and quality strategy.

Knowledge of security level treatments in cases of name/ticker changes, mergers, spinoffs, de-mergers, etc. Experience working with tools like Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Factset, Refinitiv, and accounting data, and others on reference data.  Familiar with symbology and identifier concepts and usage (ISIN,CUSIP,SEDOL, RIC)

 

Primary tasks will include but are not limited to:

• Monitoring data ingestion processes
• Managing data exceptions
• Manage user access and entitlements
• Evaluate standard procedures and identify opportunities for improvement and automation
• Manage data quality and data trending needs to build industry standard best practices in data automation tools
• Interface with clients as subject matter expert for data related needs (new, existing)
• Interface with Data Content leads to operationalize new feeds for quality, trouble shooting

Provides guidance to more junior staff. Acts as escalation resources on more complex data items.

Independently compiles, synthesizes and reports on market data sources; provides support with access, maintenance and security activities. Manages complex databases, feeds, etc. and assist with more complex data sources.

Will be a subject matter expert on market data sources such as Bloomberg, IDC, FactSet, etc. Tests software enhancements and upgrades as necessary, and may provide recommendations for improvement. Participates as operations team representative in client onboarding projects; establishes procedures, playbook details, and conducts training sessions, and oversees team‘s involvement in projects.

Contributes and responses to data-related questions from internal and external clients and helps provide solutions. Displays strong analytical skills, trouble-shooting, problem management trending. Experience with security reference data and/or fund accounting. Must display strong verbal and written communication skills. Ensures that all customer responses are thoroughly documented and verified. Contributes to the achievement of team objectives.

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 5-7 years of total work experience preferred. Experience in the financial industry

Candidate Requirements:

• 5-7 years of experience as a business analyst or working in a financial services operations role
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Computer Science, Math
• Solid knowledge of investment management business domain is required
• Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
• Financial Data Management, Fund Accounting, Portfolio Accounting, or Performance measurement related experience is preferred
• Desire to learn querying tools to access database information is required
• Although no programming experience is required, the desire to learn the technical architecture and structure of the system is required
• Project management, hands on technology, SQL, Python and relational database experience are a plus
• Strong experience with Microsoft Excel
• Experience with ETL tools preferred
• Experience with Azure preferred.
• Ability to work effectively, collaboratively with other groups within the company

Qualifications

Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree in quantitative analysis preferred. 5-7 years experience preferred. Experience in quantitative finance and technology preferred.
