YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Chemistry Informatics Co-Op, are to: 

 

  • Assist and collaborate in the development of a robust metabolomics database;
  • Develop tools for automated searching and processing, batch processing of data file conversion, generating streamlined workflows, etc.;
  • Support the automated generation of reports;
  • Provide verbal updates to his/her supervisor and mentor and maintain a lab notebook following company policy;
  • Support in building a streamlined metabolomics workflow in dereplication process, including troubleshooting errors and optimizing processes;
  • Implement pending features (changes in analytical methods, scripts, etc.);
  • Backfill reports into a centralized location and debug scripts;
  • Work with supervisor to develop a decision tree/automated process for process Quality Control(QC), optimization and report review.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or STEM program;
  • Programming in any combination of Python, Perl, SQL, Visual Basic, MATLAB and/or R;
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and time-management skills;
  • Programming skills that could be applied to automating chemistry workflows;
  • Self-motivated, quickly adapts to changing situations and a willingness to learn.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Previous experience with programming in a chemistry research setting;
  • Familiarity with chemical structure drawing programs and chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques;
  • Previous experience with chemistry databases, generating an LC-MS/MS library and creating chemistry macros or simplifying workflows.
