How will you make an impact?
As a Buyer II, you will be responsible for evaluating demand, purchasing key materials, and building supplier relationships that enable us to exceed our customers’ expectations for high quality products delivered on-time and on-budget.

What will you do?

  •  Utilize MRP for the procurement of materials to ensure the best possible material availability for production and service requirements while controlling inventory levels.
  •  Under the guidance of the senior buyer, make parameter adjustments to ensure that MRP is planning based on the needs of the business (i.e. minimum orders quantities, safety stock, lead times, etc.).
  • Manage purchase orders by implementing the appropriate actions in the supply chain as driven by changes in the production schedule (expedite, defer, cancel, etc.).
  • Review purchase requests for completeness and compliance with company requirements
  • Negotiate with suppliers and approve purchases of authorized amounts or size.
  • Establish and build effective relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders within the organization.
  • Work with Corporate Finance and suppliers to resolve invoice issues in a timely manner.
  • Review key performance indicators with supplier quality and assist in driving improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with business leads and Planning to assure supply.
  • Embrace and participate in PPI continuous improvement initiatives to identify improvements and cost savings to the business.
  • Conduct business in a manner consistent with Thermo Fisher Scientific Corporate and site-level Purchasing policies and procedures including Thermo Fisher Scientific Business Conduct Guidelines.
  • Perform all job functions in compliance with federal and state safety regulations and Thermo Fisher safety policy.


How will you get here?
Education

  •  Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university highly desired, preference in supply chain planning or operations production management or equivalent education/experience.
  • High School Diploma//GED is a minimum requirement.

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in a buyer or supply/production planner role.
  • Experience utilizing MRP / ERP systems.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
 

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.) and other similar software.
  • Ability to critically think, problem solve, and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process, with the ability to avoid potential manufacturing bottlenecks.
