The Applications Development Manager is an intermediate management level position responsible for providing full leadership and direction to a team of employees in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to lead applications systems analysis and programming activities.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of Applications Development professionals to accomplish established goals and conduct personnel duties for team (e.g. performance evaluations, training and development, hiring and disciplinary actions) as well as act as an advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts
- Oversee process for technical issue escalation and prioritize technical issue resolution
- Leverage skills across Applications Development area to provide technical oversight across systems and applications
- Communicate internal and external departmental interdependence as well as cross product and cross project
- Resolve issues using in-depth knowledge of concepts and procedures within applications development
- Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business processes, system processes, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
- Contribute to planning, budget management, formulation of procedures, and resource planning negotiating with external parties when necessary
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
- Ability to take ownership and make technical decisions on software development projects
- Experience with dependency management, change management, continuous integration testing tools, and audit/compliance requirements
- Extensive knowledge of software engineering and object-oriented design
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

- Architecture Responsibility # Architect systems/tools using Big Data Architectural concepts and best practices.
- Data Modelling# Design/Derive data structures based on the best practices (considering the system flow, performance , data lineage and big data principles)
- Development #
o Good understanding of the code quality tools, Unit Test case frameworks.
o Create Technical Documentation for reference and reporting.
- Provide support for ongoing development, trouble shooting, and optimize performance.
- Perform detailed analysis, develop and foster key operational relationships with stakeholders, and understanding all facets of technology planning, delivery and operational sustainment capability.
- As an escalation point for application(s) support and troubleshooting, provides guidance and direction to all teams that interface.
- Develop, Enhance, Debug, Supports, Maintains and Test software applications that support business units and supporting functions.
- Collaborate with external technology teams to coordinate delivery of software applications.
- Has very good troubleshooting and debugging skills, easily understand complex code and provide solutions Integrate software components and third-party programs.
- Thorough knowledge of SDLC and code propagation.
- Mentor and guide team to provide complete support to the development teams, and work with teams having global presence.
- Familiarity with source code repositories and continuous integration to support various parallel development activities and branching strategies.
- 8-10+ Years of application development and implementation experience.
- 5+ years of experience with end-to-end design and delivery of Big Data Applications.
- 5+ Years of experience in System Architecture.
- Expert in logical data modelling and relational database design.
- Expert in maintain, improving and measuring the code quality, code coverage.
- Expertise in writing technical documentation.
- Knowledge of SDLC
- Nice to have – Knowledge of Risk domain (preferably Retail Risk)
Skills:
- Strong technical expertise on the following
o Hadoop Ecosystem (MR2, HDFS, Spark, Spark SQL , Scala, Hive , Sqoop)
o Good understanding of Hadoop data storage formats (Avro, Parquet etc)
o Working with RDD, Datasets and Data frames.
o Relational Database knowledge and basic SQL Programming.
o Nice to have – Spring Batch ,Sprint Integration and any Java script framework
o Experience working with Linux Environment and shell scripts.
o Experience with GIT and any Git Remote repository tool, Branching and Merging strategies
o Experience using the code coverage, code quality and profiling tools.
