AstraZeneca is looking to recruit an experienced Image Analysis Scientist to develop and apply scalable AI-based image analysis solutions for predictive biomarker discovery to inform clinical trials. Proven experience in engineering and deploying computer vision solutions is needed while being ambitious of technical leadership. At our Munich Computational Pathology site, you will have the opportunity to tackle exciting technical challenges within a large interdisciplinary team of biology, pathology, image AI and data science experts.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Design and development of image data analysis solutions serving the goals of the drug development projects, including requirements engineering, development, implementation, deployment and result delivery.
  • Assume technical leadership role in projects or segments of large scale programs, while applying specialist knowledge in image data science.
  • Contribute to image data science algorithm libraries, and enabling tools and components.
  • Apply quantitative expertise in machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modelling and/or applied mathematics to develop and operate innovative image AI solutions.
  • Extract knowledge and insights from image-based data in order to support drug development and biomarker discovery in Early Oncology through a range of data preparation, modelling, analysis and/or visualization techniques.
  • Close collaboration with interfacing functions within Early Oncology, such as pathology, translational sciences, software development.
  • Effectively engage with the technology; development and AI science community within AstraZeneca, whilst contributing to scientific conferences and/or journal publications.

Essential Requirements and Qualifications:

  • M. Sc., Ph.D. degree in computer sciences, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or comparable degree, with a focus on computer vision, or equivalent experience; Experience in (bio-)medical image analysis is a plus
  • Knowledgeable of state-of-the-art deep learning and image processing methodologies as well as machine learning for building and validation of models in a computer vision setting
  • Programming skills in Python and applied knowledge in computer vision libraries (such as PyTorch, Keras, TensorFlow, Scikit-Image etc. ) and data analysis libraries (e.g. Pandas, Scikit-Learn etc.)
  • Accountability for sub-project management and delivery in a multi-national, multi-disciplinary project in academia or industry.
  • Working experience with analysis of translational science data in the biopharmaceutical industries is beneficial.
  • Scientific perfection and passion to work on innovative approaches to image and data analysis challenges in Early Oncology
  • Talent to conceptualize, build, communicate and implement novel scientific ideas aligned with the drug development and biomarker strategies.
  • Keeps pace with latest advances in the field of machine learning e.g. weakly supervised learning, semi-supervised learning, generative and adversarial learning, self-supervised learning, attention learning.
  • An individual who enjoys working in an informal, collegial and innovative workplace.
