HKUST, Guangzhou Science and Technology Innovation Committee, and Innovation Academy for South China Sea Ecology and Environmental Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a cooperation agreement in Hong Kong to jointly support the establishment of the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) (“the Laboratory”). The “Hong Kong Branch” of the Laboratory is set up at HKUST to integrate the efforts of the Hong Kong's marine science and technology talents to participate in regional and national programs in the Greater Bay Area, in close collaboration with the Laboratory.
The appointees will be required to:
- Assist the Branch Director to integrate local and international marine to participate in marine research and contribute to the mission and vision of the Hong Kong Branch;
- Oversee all funded research projects including research reports, research findings, publications, and patents;
- Provide professional editorial services in the review and development of the Hong Kong Branch;
- Take care of both scientific and technical matters to align with local and international institutions, including planning annual meeting/workshops/seminars/symposiums and developing academic exchange;
- Plan and manage the budget and expenses of the research cruises and field sampling activities;
- Collaborate closely with team members to ensure the quality of Chinese and English writing;
- Provide secretarial services to branch committees and academic working groups; and
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director or his delegates.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in marine science, environmental science, life science or related field and preferably with substantial relevant work experience and strong Chinese and English scientific writing skills with proven publication record. It would be an advantage if applicants have sound knowledge in more than one field in marine science, ocean science, biodiversity, natural products, biology, microbiology, ecology, and environmental health and safety. They should be self-motivated, able to multi-task and adaptive to a fast-changing environment. They should be independent and also good team players with strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills. High proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) and software application are required. The appointees may need to work outside office hours. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
