Grand Mercure Wellington is working with the Ministry of Health utilizing the hotel as a managed isolation facility to help bring kiwis home. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all guests and staff, In conjunction with the Ministry of Health, we have revised hotel policies and procedures in place during this time and full training will be given to you. This is a unique opportunity to work with different services such as The Ministry of Health, CCDHB, New Zealand's defence force and NZ Police whilst we all do our bit to protect New Zealand.


Grand Mercure Wellington is proud to be operating as a Managed Isolation Facility supporting the New Zealand boarder team to host self-isolating guests. Our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 is to take all reasonable, practicable steps to eliminate, or otherwise control, known risks. Therefore, we operate in a level 4 environment at all times. With full PPE and WHS protocols in place. To apply for this role all applicants must have or be willing to receive the COVID19 Vaccination upon commencing employment. Working at New Zealand’s border at this time is a high-risk working environment, and the COVID-19 vaccination provides a significant additional control to protect our people, their loved ones, and the wider community against the virus.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Assist in the management of the day-to-day operation of Hotel with special focus on Front Office, Telephones, Portering and Night Audit functions. Ensuring that service standards are maintained in these areas, profitability maximised and customer’s needs met.  

This position reports directly to the Front Office Manager. You will thrive in a busy environment and will love taking on responsibility whilst being a part of the management team.


KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Effective supervision of all guest arrivals and departures ensuring that room allocations and check in/check out processes follow set procedures and are customer focused.
  • Ensure Accor’s guest loyalty and recognition program is maintained and delivered to it’s highest standards.
  • Motivate and empower team members to problem solve and surprise our guests with novelty.
  • Ability to oversee the hotel operation in the absence of the Front Manager & Hotel Manager
  • Assist in the management of the hotel Front-Office operation to achieve a reputation as a market leader in individualised customer focused service in the hotel locality.
  • Assist in the running of and actively participate in weekly Front Office meetings respecting the confidentiality of issues, which may be discussed formally or informally.
  • Full utilisation of the Front Office system ensuring accuracy in use and a range of accurate reports to meet operational needs are produced.
  • Assist in the management of lobby services including car parking and portering, ensuring guest arrivals and departures are as efficient as possible.
  • Delegate duties so all aspects of the shift are covered, ensure concise handover to the next shift. 
  • Induct new staff into the team, department and hotel in the first week of their employment using the orientation checklist.
  • Any other reasonable request as required by Hotel Management


Work Experience

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Full Time (Minimum 40 hours)
  • Successful candidates will be offered varying days each week
  • Be flexible
  • Able to work 2 or more Night Manager's shifts
  • Previous Front Office experience at supervisory level is essential
  • Leadership capability
  • Current GM Certificate or able to obtain
  • NZ Full driver's license
  • Opera knowledge
  • NZ citizen, permanent resident or hold a current and valid work visa/permit.
