Oracle Retail is the number one provider of innovative and comprehensive industry software solutions for retailers - enabling organizations to serve their customers better by applying insight into daily business decisions for more profitable results. With software that provides supply chain, operations, merchandising, store systems, optimization and information technology solutions, Oracle partners with the world's leading retail companies, including 17 of the top 20 retailers worldwide, to transform the economics of their businesses.
Oracle Retail Global Business Unit (RGBU) was formed in 2005, as part of a major shift in Oracle’s strategy to create dedicated industry business units for a select group of industries to lead its entry into the vertical industries. The retail vertical industry was at the forefront of this push. Oracle Retail Global Business Unit (RGBU), which has proved to be the template for the other industry global business units, includes teams for development, product strategy, business strategy, sales, consulting, product marketing and operations, with RGBU’s Global Head reporting directly into Oracle’s Headquarters.
This reporting structure signalled Oracle's intent to make substantial investments in these industries, and, for retail, is borne out by Oracle's strategic acquisitions since 2005 of key applications that had good credibility and a rich heritage of experience in the retail industry, such as Retek (merchandising, merchandise planning, retail supply chain management and store inventory management), ProfitLogic (markdown optimization), 360Commerce (POS, now called Oracle Retail Point-of-Service), Advanced Visual Technology (AVT, 3D visual macro space planning), Art Technology Group (ATG, e-commerce) and more recently, Micros Retail.
