Summary: The U.S. Mission in Beijing is seeking an eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Administrative Assistant. The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week) Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end. Supervisory Position: No Duties: The Administrative (Agriculture) Assistant provides administrative and secretarial assistance to the United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Office. The Administrative Assistant reports to the FSIS Office Director. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for the budget/procurement, scheduling, correspondence, providing translation on documents and receptionist duties. Further, the Administrative Assistant arranges official travel of all FSIS officials, prepares travel reimbursements for the FSIS Office Director and assists office staff with other activities as needed. In this position, it is responsible for communicating with other parts of the Embassy, the public and private sectors, academics and other non-governmental organizations relating to the mission of the FSIS Office. Qualifications and Evaluations Education: Bachelor’s in Liberal arts, Business, or Management is required. Requirements: EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years prior work experience in government or non-government policy development, research or advocacy. Within these 3 years, at least one year’s experience working with an international organization or in a multicultural setting is required. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have detailed familiarity with standard office procedures, and with Chinese and American social customs. Demonstrated experience in the use of various computer software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet and knowledge of general administrative procedures is required. Must have detailed and broad knowledge about the standards for functioning with the Chinese Government, Chinese Industry and other Chinese institutions or universities. Evaluations: LANGUAGE: Level IV (Fluent) reading/writing/speaking in English is required. (This will be tested.) Level IV (Fluent) reading/writing/speaking in Chinese is required. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have excellent organizational skills, the ability to work independently, to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, to set priorities, to elaborate strategies to carry out complex projects autonomously, and to work effectively as a member of a team. Must be able to produce a large volume of work accurately, in a timely manner, and occasionally under time pressure, and ability to evaluate the effectiveness of plans developed to communicate to the public, to translate English and Chinese, and have Computer, internet and effective interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
