Mars started its Yorkshire Petfood journey when it acquired the Thomas’s factory in Halifax on 1968.  Production was later transferred to our purpose built Birstall site in 1987 long before the retail park even existed.  Many products made in the original factory are still produced (Schmackos, Markies and Aquarian) and are still in growth.

 

Due to the exponential growth of the Petcare category over the past 15 months (1.2m new dogs and 300k new cats in the UK) we now have several exciting opportunities for individuals seeking employment to join the Mars Petcare team on varied shifts at our Birstall Factory as Production Operators.

 

The role of a Production Operator is to operate, control and monitor machinery within a specified area; to optimise efficiency, product quality and safety and maintain a professional, clean manufacturing environment.

 

Without the hard work of our production team our product would never be able to reach the market, so the role of production operator is one of the key roles to the business!

 

What are we looking for?

• Educated to GCSE level
• Experience of an FMCG environment would be desirable.
• FLT licence would be a nice to have but not crucial.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

 

What would be your key responsibilities?

• Ensure comprehensive records and logs are maintained and effective shift handovers are carried out.
• Control and monitor machinery within a specified area, optimise efficiency, product quality and safety, whilst maintaining a clean manufacturing environment.
• Regular quality checks to ensure we are producing first class products.
• Contribute, support and improve team performance by working collaboratively, sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Ownership of high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in your area.
• Escalate issues within work area, able to perform minor technical repairs and perform first level diagnostics in their specific area of work.
