The Role

？ Tesla is currently seeking a motivated and accomplished ME Engineer who will be the subject matter expert in leading Factory Design at Gigafactory 3, which located in Shanghai.

？ The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile and highly motivated team to accomplish some of the most ambitious projects being attempted in any industry today. He/She takes pride in his/her thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail.

？ The team is responsible for driving high-level factory design decisions through quantitative analysis and ensuring a design that supports seamless integration between production, material flow, construction, and facilities teams. Innovation is expected both in the design of the factory and the material flow equipment to support it. Through a detailed understanding of the high-level factory objectives and extensive collaboration with the internal and external teams designing individual factory components, this team ensures that the factory design as a whole achieves all of Tesla’s objectives.

Responsibilities

？ Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethics that reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of Tesla.

？ Closely collaborate with process design team and external equipment integrators on building and utilities requirements, custom material flow automation equipment design.

？ Design and optimize factory layouts for production, material flow, construction, and facilities.

？ Work with manufacturing engineering teams to ensure that equipment and layout designs align with the overall process line and vision for the factory.

？ Lead the design and development for the efficient layout of production facilities to support the manufacturing of battery cells/modules/pack.

？ Develop and reviewed concept drawings, specifications and proposals for module/pack assembly line.

？ Feasibility / Cost study on advanced engineering for process/layout/material flow strategy and future expansion.

？ Lead cross-functional team to develop engineering solution to support green/brownfield program.

Requirements

？ Minimum 5 years of mechanical or industrial, manufacturing engineering experience with new battery pack process

？ Experience with plant and process line planning.

？ Experience with bidding documentation development, technical evaluation, FAP & SAP.

？ Experience with line throughput improve and process optimization

？ Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive projects with diverse teams in a high volume manufacturing environment.

？ Experience quantitatively solving ambiguous problems at a systems level.

？ Extensive detailed analysis experience to make data-driven decisions and summarize results for executives.

？ Experience with business case engineering

？ Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

？ Extensive experience with Excel (VBA a plus).

？ Experience with layouts in AutoCAD (Catia, Solidworks, Sketchup are a plus).

？ Experience designing greenfield facility layouts (car plant a plus).
