We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our commercial team based in Shanghai, China.

Reporting directly to General Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for optimizing the cargo mix and net contribution on a voyage by voyage basis as well as liaising with internal and external customers on a daily basis.

In this role the successful applicant will also support and back up commercial manager as required.

Responsibilty

  • Actively promote the AAL brand in the domestic and international/regional markets;

  • Introduce the business and services to prospects utilizing an assertive selling approach;

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all shipping services offered by the Agency and the Line and apply it effectively in diagnosing customer requirements;

  • Identify and gain access to key decision makers;

  • Establish effective relationships with prospects that will induce trust and faith in the company’s shipping services and consequently ensure sales.

  • Develop and deliver effective sales presentations;

  • Negotiate and close opportunities while supporting the company’s price positions;

  • Accurately quote prices to prospects using tariff book, liaising with the Line and Agency in unique cases to ensure accuracy;

  • Achieve sales targets set out by the Agency and the Line to increase shipments;

  • Develop and maintain a balanced pipeline of sales opportunities.

  • Co-ordinate promotional material as required.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitor’s services and prices.


    Knowledge, Skill and Abilityes required.

§ Ability to develop own leads and maintain strong customer base; § Strong understanding of break bulk; § Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, managers and employees; § Outstanding communication and customer service skills with the ability to exchange information and ideas with others clearly and concisely; § Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence; § Time and personal management skills, including the ability to maximise the effectiveness of your time; § Ability to work autonomously and be a proven self-starter; § Broad knowledge of the market and our competitors; § Intermediate skills in the latest versions of the Microsoft Office Suite; § Ability to work irregular hours and travel domestically.

Experience/Qualifications required

  • Must have considerable experience within the shipping industry;

  • Proven track record of selling shipping or related services, preferably break bulk;

    Proven track record of exceptional sales achievement.
