Job Outline:
This role is mainly responsible for a wide range of legal and compliance related work, and will also be participating in risk management related work when necessary.
Qualifications:
Essential
Bachelor's degree in LAW or has passed National Judicial Examination / National Legal Professional Qualification Exam;
Demonstrable understanding and continued learning of the Chinese laws, rules and regulations, especially those relating to or impacting the higher education sector;
Understanding and the ability to identify legal risks in large organisations;
Proven skills of performing contract review, drafting contract or legal documents, providing legal advice, managing legal disputes, and writing legal case report or annual report independently;
Ability to establish or review policies and procedures relating to legal and compliance at the University;
Strong IT literacy, and the ability to rapidly learn to use other systems;
Excellent communication and negotiation skills including high level of oral/written skills, in both English and Chinese;
Good planning and organizational skills;
Minimum 3 years of legal related work experience;
Operate with integrity and discretion;
Proven ability to delicately solve sensitive matters;
Value-driven, resourceful, resilient, independent and highly self-motivated individual;
Able to work under pressure, work to deadlines and to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment;
Ability to focus on significant issues and risks whilst also being able to manage detail;
Ability to work with people at all levels of the University
High level of cultural sensitivity, flexibility and emotional intelligence in order to work effectively within the University multicultural environment.
Desirable
Lawyer qualification;
Demonstrable understanding of the UK laws, rules and regulations;
Specialise in laws in areas of: intellectual property and copyright, data protection and information security, labor and contract related laws;
Work experience in law firms;
Legal related work experience in higher education sector;
Overseas legal related work experience or study experience;
Experience of risk management;
Experience in writing and delivering legal training.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Act as the first point of contract for legal and compliance related matters;
Perform legal services such as contract review, drafting contract or legal documents, providing legal advice, managing legal disputes, and writing legal case report independently;
Annual work planning and reporting;
Establish or review policies and procedures relating to legal and compliance, rationalisation of policies and alignment with regulatory requirements and University strategy.
Identify and review newly amended or adopted laws, regulations and standards of relevance and significance to the University, and to formulate appropriate actions accordingly.
Engage with external institutions, law firms, consulting companies, government offices to mitigate risks and introduce external resources.
Design and deliver legal training programs to colleagues and key stakeholders.
Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness;
Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
