Primary Purpose
The Language Support Department is integrated facility for children who require English as a Foreign Language. It is staffed by two teachers serving the needs of students in attendance. This role works across secondary school (Grade 7 and Grade 12).The English Language Support Teacher will be an exemplary teacher who has experience in the nuances of language learning, including languages other than English, so as to provide English language support to students whose first language is not English.
The Language Support Teacher will provide an instructional approach to advancing these students’ English proficiency and learner attributes to enable them to move through to their secondary studies, with the language skills required to enable them to cope with the demands of their subjects and to succeed at their level of ability
Key Responsibilities
With Students
? Evaluate students' English levels.
? Teach students who need language support.
? Create a supportive learning environment to promote learning.
? Demonstrate knowledge of learning difficulties and skills to support basic literacy.
? Deliver programmes of support where identified on your timetable to small groups within the curriculum.
? Keep detailed personal records of students learning and progress with multiple sources of evidence including: student assessment data, curriculum documents, teaching practices, and feedback from parents, students and colleagues.
? Complete half term reports on progress for students that you support.
? Complete termly reports on the progress of students that you support.
? Keep track of students’ annual progress, review the reports and report to related personnel.
With Curriculum
? Be familiar with each curriculum across secondary school.
? Establish language proficiency goals based on English learning objectives of curriculum.
With Resources
? Make use of appropriate resources, including ICT, to support students in the classroom.
? Base English learning materials on vocabulary areas that meet students' needs. For example, if students plan on attending university, focus on building academic vocabulary. On the other hand, if students belong are parts of a company, research materials that are related to their place of work.
? Take time to investigate what materials are available to meet students’ language goals.
With Subject Teachers
? Liaise with colleagues to determine English language learning needs within specific subjects.
? Work with colleagues to construct accurate, informative and timely reports for students and parents about student learning and achievement.
? Lead teachers to select and develop teaching strategies to improve student learning using knowledge of the physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students, along with effective and appropriate feedback strategies. This includes documentation of the students’ learning needs and strategies to be applied.
? Demonstrate exemplary practice and high expectations and lead colleagues to encourage students to pursue challenging goals in all aspects of their education.
? Exhibit exemplary practice and lead colleagues to plan, implement and review the effectiveness of their learning and teaching program to develop students’ knowledge, understanding and skills.
? Model exemplary practice and initiate programs to support colleagues in applying a range of timely, effective and appropriate teaching and learning strategies for students.
? Track individual student progress and respond to concerns.
With Parents
? Report the progress of students that you support to parents at 3-Way Conference.
? Be able to recommend resources to parents when they demand at 3-Way Conference.
Contact parents when there is a special case.
任职资格:
- 本科以上学历,具备国家认证的高中英语教师资格证;
- 有中学英语辅导的经验或担任高中英语老师的经验的优先;
- 良好的英文交流基础,有通过TEM-8的优先;
- 能够操作各类常用办公软件;
