Job Title Teaching Assistant Department Academic
Supervisor Classroom Teacher/Deputy Headmaster
Objectives
A Teaching Assistant will assist teaching staff as required during the day. This may include taking small groups within the classroom, offering one to one support under the guidance and supervision of staff members, working with pupils in various learning environments, supervising activities. To support each individual pupil’s growth and development, encouraging them as Wellingtonians to be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive.

Key Responsibilities
? Have knowledge and understanding of the curriculum at a level which will assist effective teaching and learning
? Strive to become increasingly effective in promoting pupil’s development in the three prime areas of learning and four specific areas of learning including communication and language, physical development, social and emotional development, literacy, maths and other skills as outlined by the class teacher
? Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the class teacher
? Provide support for individual pupils inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in all learning activities
? Support clear expectations of pupils’ behaviour and assist in securing appropriate standards of discipline
? Play a key role in the safe supervision of pupils at breaks, lunchtimes and movement around the learning spaces
? Help to create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment for pupils to explore and learn
? Be able to maintain pupils’ personal interests and motivation
? Present learning tasks and curriculum content in a clear and stimulating manner
? Be able to work with pupils individually and in groups, and contribute to decisions about the most appropriate learning goals, learning opportunities and teaching strategies
? Use a range of supporting techniques considering, in consultation with teachers, how best to deploy them
? Communicate clearly and effectively with pupils through questioning, instructing, explaining and feedback
? To regularly assess the pupils’ development by means of formal and informal assessment
? To communicate with parents on a regular, informal, professional basis and to deal with day to day queries
? To contribute to the pupil’s learning journals and to ensure that these records are shared with colleagues and available for inspection by senior leaders
? To be involved in developing, implementing and monitoring policy and to assist in the necessary documentation pertaining to that subject where required
? To ensure that the pupil’s work is displayed and presented to the very highest standard in the classroom and throughout the setting
? To participate where required in Staff Development and to attend staff meetings and briefings
? Regularly engage in professional development opportunities and take pride in one’s own learning
? To assist teachers with the resourcing of the learning and development areas promoted
? Produce high quality resources and materials to support pupils’ learning
? To support the Academic Development Plan so far as it relates to the subjects taught and the continuing improvement of the setting and accommodation
? To assist where required activity or activities to enrich the experience for the pupils. These activities to take place outside of the prescribed teaching hours as reasonably directed by the Master.
Job Qualifications
Basic Qualification
Education ? Bachelor’s degree
Major ? Education
Language ? Fluent written and spoken English and Chinese
Experience
Working Experience ? 2 years and above of relevant experience
Management Experience
Expertise
? Experience of working in an early years’ / educational setting preferred
? A minimum of two years’ post qualification experience
? Fluency in English and Chinese
? Ability to deliver excellent service at all times
? Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint) and database systems
? Excellent communication skills with a diverse range of people and interpersonal skills
? Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work to tight timelines
Preferred Aptitudes ? Teaching qualification
? Demonstrating practice that represents the Wellington values of all times (courage, integrity, kindness, respect and responsibility)
? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to communicate effectively with different types of people and in cross-culture environment
