Summary of Responsibilities:

Supervise and educate the laboratory skill for staff in assigned section; Performs more technically complex tests and quality control that require considerable amounts of independent judgment and interpretation. Assist lab manager on quality improvement; assist manager on staff competence evaluation; perform and monitor the internal and external quality control system, write/establish the SOP or guideline in assigned group. Responsible for laboratory instrument operation, maintenance and calibration.


Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the Laboratory Manager


Supervision Exercised:

Lab technicians, technologists and senior technologist


Qualifications:

  • Chinese clinical lab technologist license
  • At least 6yrs working experience in clinical lab after get bachelor degree
  • Or at least 4yrs working experience in clinical lab after get master degree
  • At least 2yrs management experience in biochemistry and immunology
  • Moderate English level in listening, speaking, reading and writing is preferred


Skills:

  • Moderate English level in listening, speaking, reading and writing is required
  • Ability to perform proficiency test, internal quality control practice as well as quality system establishment.
  • Have multiply skill to solve the complicated cases
  • Ability to write/establish the SOP or policy in related group
  • Computer skill –Using computers and computer system to program, set up some functions
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work Assignments


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge or concept of tests related to clinical laboratory, especially in the assigned group
  • Knowledge of tests principle and process for providing physician service
  • An understanding of the underlying scientific principles of laboratory testing as well as the
  • Technique, procedural, and problem-solving aspects, especially in the assigned area
  • Knowledge of maintenance, calibration, quality control and troubleshooting of instruments in the assigned area
  • A general comprehension of the many factors that affect health and disease, and recognizes the importance of proper test selection, the numerous causes of discrepant test results (patient and laboratory), deviation of test results, and ethics including result confidentiality
  • Correlates abnormal data with pathological states, determines validity of test results, and need for additional tests
  • Understands and enforces safety regulations
  • Knowledge of quality control programs
  • Knowledge of policies on ordering, storage and usage of reagents
  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards
  • Knowledge of staff training, management in order to improve work efficiency within the assigned group


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor specimen collection, identification, transport, storage, and processing to ensure
  • quality of specimen before testing.
  • Prepares reagents, standards and controls according to prescribed procedures.
  • Performs tests and sample analysis in the areas of clinical chemistry, hematology,
  • Microbiology, immunology and/or Body fluid analysis.
  • Verifies test results prior to release.
  • Performs quality control to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and
  • Procedures, including external and internal quality control .Recognizes instrument malfunction and out-of-control test results and takes corrective action.
  • Calibrates, standardizes, and maintains test equipment and instruments, establish following procedures in the assigned area.
  • Establish record storage and retrieval guidelines for maintenance and
  • calibration records per practice and regulatory standards, including the documentation of correct action for equipment malfunction.
  • Solve problems of physicians and nurses related to laboratory tests, accepts complaints, and take corrective actions.
  • Trains new employees the laboratory techniques and internal quality control
  • Learn all the policies and regulations related the quality control and necessary regulations related to accreditation.
  • Develop and / or Utilize an Orientation Program, including laboratory policies and procedure manuals
  • Develops and prepares quality standards, programs and standard operation procedures
  • (SOP) in the assigned area; monitors and maintains quality of laboratory operations and performance of laboratory staff in compliance with accreditation standards, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform and Implement performance appraisals, including methodologies, protocols and techniques to meet the clinical demands.
  • Acts as an information/technical resource on testing methods and procedures and laboratory operations, safety, and training in the assigned area.
  • Develop and implement reagent preparation, labeling, and storage guidelines; Monitor reagent preparation, labeling, and storage guidelines
  • Assist lab manager to monitor and evaluate operating expenses, complete the statistics on the reagent cost within the assigned group per month.
  • Work with leaders on informatics development and implementations.
  • Participates in education class and continuing education programs to keep current on new instrumentation, techniques and educate other lab staff by the lecture or other ways.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned from lab manager.
